This show is trash. The characters are all terrible, unlikeable people. The writing is amateurish, obvious (was anyone surprised by the impeachment storyline?) and hard to follow. I mean, one minute the central character is caught denigrating soldiers killed in battle, and the next he’s hit with an expose showing he pays hardly any income tax. Pump the brakes on this Roto-Rooter. How is the viewer supposed to comprehend anything when new plotlines are thrown their way every five minutes? Also, in what hellscape do so many things happen to one person? Better yet, why are there no consequences?
This season’s big story involves a worldwide pandemic. The show’s main caricature, President Donald J. Trump, spends months questioning the severity of a virus that has killed hundreds of thousands. Trump refuses to wear a mask and continues to hold indoor rallies with people packed nut to butt even though his own health agency urges people to wear masks and maintain a distance from people. Can you guess what happens? Yep. The president gets the virus. Insert dun-dun-dun sound effect or maybe that noise from “Law & Order.” Either way, this is some D- M. Night Shyamalan “Lady in the Water” bullshit. At least in that movie, there’s some character development. Don’t expect that in season 4 of “Trump.”
It’d be surprising if Trump got treatment and came back a different man, maybe not likable, but perhaps more introspective and aware of the damage his recklessness caused. But no, not this rotten egg, wet fart in a shower of a show. Instead of a more humane Trump, we get a highly infectious windbag joyriding the streets of D.C., spreading his disease and the virus, not to his ardent fans, but to those assigned to protect him. It’s a sad and feeble motorcade, a roving ego stroke from a desiccated set of bones covered in a rust-colored and worn hide.
Season 4 is just like seasons 1 through 3. There’s nothing new here, just more depravity and a basement that never seems to come. The only thing worth thinking about is whether or not there will be a season 5. I mean, what could happen next season that hasn’t already happened? The answer is, a lot, but that’s not something I, or anyone else, should want to see.
