Real talk.
President Biden — the aging octogenarian Commander in Chief, arguably the most powerful person on Earth — shit the bed.
And now everyone is crapping their pants.
No amount of Depends could’ve contained the load that was Biden’s “debate” performance. He stank up the place with his meandering, red-stringed incoherence. The verbal diarrhea coming out of the president’s mouth was an audio Rorschach test, a confused jumble of words that, when strung together, painted a picture of an old man having a senior moment in front of the world.
I’m still going to vote for him.
Biden is old. He says things that make no sense. He’s in decline and shouldn’t be running for re-election.
Trump is old. He says things that make no sense. He’s in decline and shouldn’t be running for re-election.
Trump is also a recently convicted felon. He’s been indicted in three other cases. Trump is a habitual liar. He lied so much and so often about the results of the 2020 election that a group of his followers stormed the Capitol in a failed attempt to overturn the results. It took Trump several hours to do anything to try and quell the violence. Oh, and if you bring up the Nancy Pelosi shit (it’s not true, even if it were, it’s irrelevant), I’ll answer you with this — “Why were those people at the Capitol? Who told them the election was stolen? Who encouraged them to come to DC to protest this false injustice?
I could go on.
Remember, Trump tried to get the Georgia Secretary of State to find some votes for him? Remember, he helped orchestrate a fake elector scheme in a last-ditch attempt to actually steal the election?
Remember?
Grab them by the pussy?
Separating children from the families?
Held liable for sexually abusing E. Jean Carroll?
His signature achievement while in office was a steep tax cut for the wealthiest Americans?
Climate change is a hoax?
“Very fine people on both sides.”
He’ll only be a dictator on day one?
Gorsuch? Kavanaugh? Coney Barrett?
Roe vs. Wade?
The religious right agenda known as Project 2025 that Trump supports?
Remember?
Sure, Biden seemed Silver Alert lost, but that doesn’t mean Trump won. Trump’s been saying crazy shit for more than a decade, but we’re so used to it at this point that it doesn’t even register anymore. He’s just being “Trump.” The Donald has sucked up all the oxygen in the room for so long that it’s expected. It’s news when Trump says something coherent. There’s a double standard at play in this election. Biden’s miscues are an indicator of senility, Trump’s are just part of who he is. He just likes to riff, let it fly, speak his mind, and under all that Pinocchio-mouthed bullshit, is a real put-together guy.
Character counts.
What’s that saying? Fool me once; shame on you. Fool me twice; shame on me.
What the actual fuck are we doing, America?
Why are the polls so close?
Are we this pissed that a gallon of milk is so expensive? Don’t get me wrong, my wife and I stress about money all the time. It’s our hobby. Still, I will never vote for Trump. Also, look up when inflation started to climb. Spoiler Alert, this mess started in the last year of Trump’s term (think COVID and supply chains). Sure, it kept going during the first part of Biden’s term, but the rates have been falling steadily for almost two years now.
Biden has been a fine president. He’s not great, nor is he end times bad. Biden pushed through the CHIPS Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, both of which will produce long-term good. Biden also got the price of insulin lowered and is trying to help folks with their student loan debt.
And yes, he’s so fucking old. I don’t love it either. No offense to old people. My real objection to having an 81-year-old president is that it’s time for younger generations to take the reins. You know, circle of life shit.
And yes, I’m frustrated that everything is so expensive. Except, look up Trump’s proposed economic policies. Adding steep tariffs on goods from China will only make things worse, not better.
But none of that really matters in this election. Biden wasn’t my first choice back in 2020. Hell, he wasn’t in my top five. Still, I trust him. He seems like a decent guy. Biden’s spent his life in public service. He respects institutions and the rule of law. Biden believes in representative democracy and understands the responsibility that comes with holding office.
Trump cares about Trump. He’s hot for power and thinks government should serve him and not vice versa. Trump’s worse instincts were somewhat kept in check last time because he was, fortunately, lazy and didn’t take the time to learn the soft spots in the system well enough to exploit them, and he had a handful of people around him who did the bare minimum to thwart his efforts.
We won’t be so lucky this time. Trump is surrounding himself with loyalists, meaning those who are loyal to him. There will be no room for dissent or differing opinions. No guardrails.
Don’t believe me? The Trump campaign is already administering loyalty tests. If elected, 45 has a plan to use an Executive Order known as Schedule F to overhaul the federal bureaucracy and fill it with acolytes.
This is terrifying, tyrant level stuff. It should scare the shit out of us. Apparently, it doesn’t. We’re so worried about Biden’s age (remember, there is such a position as Vice President and a mechanism to remove presidents whose eggs are scrambled) that we’re considering going with the slightly younger, equally incoherent, more felonious, and evil version because maybe milk will be cheaper?
Again, what the actual fuck are we doing, America?
Biden shit the bed on Thursday. Let’s not shit the bed in November.
